BIOGRAPHY

Born in Izmir, Turkey and now making his mark in New York City's vibrant jazz scene, Ömer Koşar embarked on his musical journey a decade ago. His saxophone voyage began at Virginia Commonwealth University's Jazz Camp in 2012, where he trained under influential mentors such as Skip Gailes and Adam Larrabee. After earning his Bachelor's degree in Jazz from Yasar University in 2015, studying with luminaries like Emre Kartari, Dena DeRose and Valentin Conus Ömer set his sights on furthering his education and career in the heart of jazz at the Hartt School of Music.

In 2023, Ömer achieved his Master's degree in Jazz Saxophone Performance at Hartt, studying intensively with Javon Jackson, Zaccai Curtis and Rene Mclean. During his time there, he also served as an assistant to Professor Jackson, enriching his musical insight and mentorship. Ömer has participated in masterclasses with renowned figures such as John Pattitucci, Sheila Jordan, and Donald Harrison, Delfeayo Marsalis further enhancing his musical prowess. 

Renowned for his robust ensemble playing, impeccable sight-reading skills, and versatility on piano and drums, Ömer Koşar continues to captivate audiences with his deep-rooted passion for jazz, bridging his Turkish heritage with the vibrant rhythms of New York City.
